I took a course on tobacco cessastion. It provided me with knowledge and tools to better educate my patients on the harmful effects of tobacco and the many reasons to consider quitting. I am now much more confident in my ability to discuss tobacco cessation with patients and help them utilize all the neccesary resources in order to make a healthy lifestyle change.
Communication is vital to patient education. In order to better communicate with ALL patients, I took a course on more effectively commnicating with those who have cultural differences, have a low health literacy, or who are not proficient in English. These skills and knowledge enable me to be a more compassionate and understanding provider, more able to present information and treatment plans to ALL patients.
